Bull Terrier Info.

Bull Terrier
A strong, compact dog, characterized by its egg-shaped head.
History: Although now regarded as rather a smart breed, the Bull Terrier has its origins among the fighting dogs of the 19th century. Around 1860, a British dog dealer from Birmingham, James Hinks, engineered a refinement of the original Staffordshire Bull Terriers, incorporating qualities of the English White Terrier and, possibly the Dalmatian and Pointer. The result was a white, well-muscled dog which was sufficiently urbane and appearance for the show-ring, but retained the strength and tenacity of its fighting relatives. Its tolerance of tropical climates later made it a favorite with the British Civil Service in Africa and India. Because all-white Bull Terriers often suffer from deafness, some additional coat colour was introduced into the breed in the 1920s.
Temperament: The dog has a very strong character, and forms lasting relationships with people. However, it is relentlessly aggressive towards other dogs. Bitches tend to be more peaceable.
Requirements: A firm training, lively environment and long walks.
Key Characteristics:
Eyes - Triangular, narrow and set obliquely. Black or very dark brown.
Head - Egg-shaped with a profile curving smoothly from the top of the skull to the black, down-turned nose.
Coat - Short, hard and laying flat. White with or without colored markings on head, or predominantly colored. The latter form a separate variety.
Body - Broad, deep chest and well rounded rib-cage. Short, strong back.
Ears - Small and set close together. Pointing staight up when erect.
Tail - Set and held low. Short and tapering.
